Like, how some seniors have been suffering – and dying – more than others in the pandemic. Or how child care isn’t just a nice to have – it’s critical to our economy and society. And, of course: the climate crisis isn’t just something we talk about anymore – it’s here, and bringing fires, floods, droughts and storms. For years, Canadian governments have been fans of tiny baby steps when tackling big problems. But now, it’s time to step it up a notch.
There’s something wrong with for-profit long-term care in this country. So far in the pandemic, more people died in for-profit care than any other. Waves of infections steamrolled through for-profit care homes.
Lots of people don’t have any choice when choosing care for themselves or their family – they take whatever bed is available. And often, that bed is in a for-profit home where the focus is on how much money the owners can make. Long-term care is health care, not a business.
On September 20, vote for a party that will fix long-term care and make it part of health care in Canada.
Essential workers can’t keep our country going and fight the pandemic without child care.
But even outside of a pandemic, we’ve been hitting a crisis point. Child care costs as much as a mortgage – yet early childhood educators are some of the lowest paid professionals out there. People want child care that is safe, high-quality, and affordable. And they want the people taking care of their kids to be treated with respect. That’s not too much to ask.
Canadians care enough about each other to vote to protect universal public health care – the time has come to care enough about each other to vote for universal child care too. It just makes sense.
On September 20, vote for a party that will finally deliver universal child care.
The world is moving past oil and gas. We need to act now or Canadians will be left behind. Oil and gas workers deserve a plan for new, clean jobs. They deserve a future too.
We need a government that recognizes climate action as critical for Canada’s future – not a barrier. Canada’s future lies in embracing green jobs and the green economy – and taking decisive action to tackle the climate crisis.
On September 20, vote for a party that won’t stick its head in the sand, and will take serious action on climate change.
